BLOG GUIDE
Each week, you will read from our required text AND from online multimedia materials within FLEXBOOK MEDIA that you choose or I post.
EMAIL ALL BLOGS BY THURSDAY AT 11:59PM TO:
AND
Note: Don’t forget to put your alias in the subject heading of your email!
WEEKLY BLOG REQUIREMENTS:
To make it easy to post your weekly blogs, I have sent each of you a convenient email address (see FLEXBOOK) that you can send them to before the due date. The weekly reading blogs are meant to be a creative stimulus for conversations taking place inside and outside the classroom.
INDEX CARD/PAPER/CREATIVE JOURNAL ALTERNATIVE: If you do not have access to a computer, prefer to use a pen or pencil instead of your tapping fingers, or hate technology altogether, you may substitute your weekly blog with a INDEX card or typed PAPER or JOURNAL filled with your points and questions (use one side per reading, must be submitted with your name on it too). YOU MUST let the instructor know if you have any difficulty retrieving reading materials. You can access computers throughout the week at the College of Alameda library, the Alameda Free Library, or other local library if, for some reason, you cannot access materials from home.
CAUTIONARY NOTE: DO NOT summarize information! Do NOT simply COPY or READ the first few sentences of the reading. I care about your PERSONAL engagement with ideas and arguments, so read, listen, and watch ALL of the content!
I have posted readings online since this is FREE OF COST to you, it saves you cash, and you can access more nuanced multimedia texts.
RAPID REWARDS:
1. ALL BLOGS ARE DUE THURSDAYS BY 11:59PM.
2. Maximum Weekly Blog Total: 15 points (Deep and Insightful); 12 points (A Bit Interesting); 10 points (Barely Scratches the Surface); 0 points if your responses are exact copies of one another or are plagiarized in any way.
3. The FIRST 10 INSIGHTFUL ENTRIES from each Humanities section will receive +2 bonus points for developing an early writing ritual.
4. Anyone who RESPONDS TO ANOTHER STUDENT’S BLOG will receive an additional +1 point for each response.
5. Anyone who provides a RELEVANT WEBLINK, IMAGE, or VIDEO for each week receives +1 point.
6. You may write an OPTIONAL BLOG (worth +5 points) in additional to the REQUIRED readings (see E-Reserves).
7. You may receive a maximum of +5 points per week (combining early blogs, comments, or optional readings).
8. You may scan other responses from classmates or work with them to spark ideas of your own, but not copy them. I value originality, so please use your own authentic points and questions.
9. I will not accept late blogs unless there is an emergency or severe illness (with documentation). I must be notified in advance in case this happens.
10. Make sure you put your INITIALS (FIRST TWO LETTERS OF YOUR FIRST NAME, AND FIRST TWO LETTER OF YOUR LAST NAME) AND BLOG NUMBER in the SUBJECT HEADING of your EMAIL. If your name is John Doe, “JODO, Blog 0″ would be a proper heading for your blog. This helps me keep track of your responses more efficiently.
I look forward to reading your responses soon and working with all of you this semester.
Your instructor,
Dr. Dylan Eret
